Executive Council
2016 - 2017

Picture
President
Matthew Hardman

I am a PhD student working with Drs. Graham Pearson and Thomas Stachel. My project focuses on the geochemical discrimination of crust- and mantle-derived garnets, and improving the utility of eclogitic garnet in the exploration for diamond deposits.

Vice President
Calla Knudson

I am a first year Master’s student working with Dr. Murray Gingras. My research project investigates the relationship between clay mineralogy and water chemistry with respect to flocculation behaviour and partitioning of trace metals.

Secretary/Treasurer
Cosette Gilmore

I am a MSc student working with Dr. Chris Herd. My project focuses on studying metal and water abundances in meteorites to better understand the economic potential of these resources in space.

Social Convenor
Maya LaGrange

Hi everyone, my name is Maya and I’m a first year Masters student in the Ichnology Research Group under Dr. Murray Gingras. I’m assessing the reservoir quality of the Hare Indian Formation in the Mackenzie Mountains of the Northwest Territories. Throughout my undergraduate here at the University of Alberta, I saw how much fun you all have at Atlas events, and I am committed to making sure this year’s events are up to your standards. Look forward to meeting you all this year!

ATLAS Talk Series Organizer
Merilie Reynolds

I am a PhD student to working with Dr. Sarah Gleeson and Dr. Rob Creaser on the world-class zinc deposits of the Red Dog district in Alaska. I use petrography and geochemistry to investigate how these deposits formed.

ATLAS Talk Series Organizer
Morgan Snyder

I have been at the U of A for approximately 1.7 Million Years, and am currently a Ph.D. student working with John Waldron on deformation in the Maritimes Basin.

Field Trip Organizer
Natasha Barrett

I’m a Cotutelle PhD student based at UofA and Macquarie University in Australia, working primarily under the supervision of Dr. Graham Pearson. My research focuses on the geochemistry and isotope systematics of mantle peridotites from Fiji and Papua New Guinea to understand the volcanic history and lithospheric enrichment processes beneath the SW Pacific Islands.

Symposium Organizer
Nicole Meyer

I am in my second year of my PhD in geology with Drs Stachel and Pearson.  My research focuses on deep diamonds and their associated mineral inclusions from Koffiefontein in South Africa.

Outreach Coordinator,
Department Council Representative

Margo Regier

I am a PhD student with Dr. Graham Pearson. I am studying the role of subduction-related saline fluids in diamond production and mantle metasomatism.
Picture
GSA Representative
Brette Harris

I'm in the first year of a Master's supervised by Dr. Murray Gingras. My project is based in the McMurray formation in northern Alberta.
Picture
Webmaster
Kristina Barclay

I'm a PhD student with Dr. Lindsey Leighton.  My research looks at the ecological effects of ocean acidification on molluscs and their predators in both the modern and fossil records.  I'm currently doing research at Bodega Marine Lab in California.

Diversity Chair
Carolyn Furlong

I'm a third year PhD. student working with John-Paul Zonneveld and Murray Gingras. My research focuses on sedimentology and ichnology of the Triassic Montney Formation in Alberta and British Columbia.

Undergraduate Liason,
Sports Representative

Jared Kugler

I am a first year Master's student working with Dr. John Waldron. My research is focused on strike-slip deformation in the Moncton Subbasin on the east coast. I am a huge soccer fan, but I am only mediocre at playing it.
Picture
Calendar Coordinator
Denelle Smyth

I am a Masters student working under Dr. Graham Pearson.  My project involves the geochemistry and geochronology of the Pikoo kimberlites in Saskatchewan.
Picture
Geology Representative
Matthew Wudrick

I am a first year Master's student working under Dr. Graham Pearson. My research focuses on the geochemistry and age of mantle xenoliths from the Karowe diamond mine in Botswana.
Picture
Glacial and Quaternary Representative
Sasiri Bandara

I’m a second year M.Sc. student working with Dr. Duane Froese and Dr. Vincent St. Louis. My research addresses climate warming and the vulnerability of permafrost mercury (Hg).
Picture
Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Representative
Yarisbel Garcia

I am a third year PhD student and I have been working with Paul G. Myers as my Supervisor. By using an ocean-sea ice coupled numerical model (NEMO), my research has been focused on investigated the variability of the Labrador Sea Water (LSW) formation rate and the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) strength. Both under different scenarios but mainly those changes induced by the climate change

Human Geography and Planning Representative
Konstantinos Koukouzikis

I have completed my bachelor's in social policy and administration in Greece. I am currently a Master's student in human geography and planning working with Dr. Robert Summers (EAS) and Dr. Brenda Parlee (REES). My research interests lie in the fields of human mobilities and environment. I love travelling and surfing the internet.
Picture
Remote Sensing and GIS Representative
Charlene Nielsen

I am living proof that Remote Sensing/GIS spans all sub-disciplines in EAS. My environmental health PhD research is entirely GIS-based (with some satellite imagery). I work with the illustrious and invisible Dr. Carl Amrhein (EAS) and the wise and well-travelled Dr. Alvaro Osornio Vargas (Pediatrics) on spatio-temporal associations of outdoor environment and subnormal neonatal weight (I don’t map baby rocks, as one might think for this department).
IPG Representative
Peter Nyman

GSA Representative Alternate
Ben Gruber

I am a first year Master's student studying the lower crust and work under Graham Pearson and Tom Chacko. I received my Bachelors degree from Washington State University in the Spring of 2015 and am excited to be researching again!
