Nineteen graduate students took part in a field trip to the Fort McMurray oil sands. Led by expert Dr. Murray Gingras, the students had the opportunity to visit the Hangstone River outcrop, Amphitheater at Fort McKay, and the Daphne Island outcrop to observe the Lower Cretaceous strata that comprise the world-class bitumen deposit. In addition to the field sites, the group also visted Fort McMurray's Oil Sands Discovery Center and the Giants of Mining display, where they learned about the machinery and processes used to extract the resource.
The group stayed two nights in a hotel, spending the evening enjoying cold beverages and each other's company. Thanks to Dr. Murray Gingras for leading the trip and sharing your expertise!
